Metroclave Instructions for use The vessel should be filled with water at 30-40oC, 4 mm below the internal lip or shoulder. Place the models in the flask and replace the lid, there will be some overspill within the shoulder due to displacement. This is normal, firstly to expel any air and secondly to ensure full potential of the hydraulics. Using the T-bar, screw down until a pressure of 20-40psi/2.5bar is reached. Most orthodontic resins will be ready within 12 to 16 minutes. Cold cure repairs between 6 and 12 minutes. Do not try to go beyond 30lbs pressure when more than two models are used. Due to plaster absorbtion this pressure is difficult to exceed.

Ensure to grease spindle thread if used regularly

The Metroclave is designed to be completely safe in operation. If excessive pressure is used either screw or internally the vessel will distort and leak. If pressure is not obtained by normal finger strength, it is normally due to one or more of the following reasons:-

    1. Insufficent water in the tank

    2. Lid ‘O’ ring or small flat washer damaged or missing

    3. Knob thread bind due to lack of grease

Do not keep turning the knob if pressure is not easily obtained. Check the foregoing points and rectify. Permanent damage to the vessel can ensure if too high pressure is used.

With a little practice the apparatus is easy to use and work can be done on a bench rather than at the sink.
